In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore the art and science of kokedama, a traditional Japanese technique of growing plants in a moss-covered soil ball. Guests will learn how soil composition, moisture retention, and plant selection all play a role in creating a healthy living arrangement.
Participants will assemble their own kokedama step by step, shaping the soil, wrapping it in moss, and securing it into a finished piece ready to display. Along the way, we’ll discuss how plants absorb water and nutrients, how moss helps maintain hydration, and what plants are best suited for this growing method.
By the end of the session, each participant will leave with a completed kokedama and a better understanding of the plant science behind it, along with practical tips to care for their new living creation at home.
We will serve complementary wine and charcuterie provided by local winery Vinovium. Participants may also purchase bottles of wine at the event.
Your ticket for this workshop includes admission to the museum, and you are welcome to tour the Science Mill before the event. The museum closes at 4pm.
